Two youths lost their lives in a tragic road accident late Friday night in Samastipur district. The incident occurred under the Musrigharari police station area amid dense fog, which severely reduced visibility on the road. The victims were riding an Apache motorcycle when the accident took place.
According to local sources, the accident happened during late night hours when thick fog had enveloped the area. Due to poor visibility, the motorcycle met with a severe crash. A loud sound was heard at the time of the incident, prompting nearby residents to rush to the spot. They found the motorcycle badly damaged and both riders lying on the road in critical condition.
The deceased have been identified as Sanjeev Rai and Ajay Rai. Both were residents of Gangapur Panchayat, Ward Number 14, under the Musrigharari police station limits. Sanjeev Rai died on the spot due to the impact of the accident, while Ajay Rai was found alive but seriously injured.
Police from Musrigharari station reached the spot soon after receiving information. Despite late night conditions and dense fog, the police acted promptly and rushed the injured to a nearby hospital using their own vehicle. Doctors declared Sanjeev Rai dead on arrival. Ajay Rai was given emergency treatment but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Police officials said the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. It is not yet clear whether another vehicle was involved in the crash. No clear evidence of a second vehicle was found at the scene, though the extent of damage suggests a high-impact collision. Dense fog is being considered a major factor behind the accident.
Both bodies have been taken into custody and sent for postmortem examination. Police have initiated a detailed investigation and are checking nearby CCTV cameras to determine the exact sequence of events.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over Gangapur Panchayat. Family members said both youths were earning members, and their sudden deaths have left the families devastated. Villagers gathered at the hospital and later at their homes, mourning the loss.
The accident has once again highlighted the dangers of traveling during dense fog in winter. Authorities have repeatedly advised motorists to exercise caution, reduce speed, and avoid unnecessary travel during foggy conditions. Despite warnings, such incidents continue to occur, raising concerns over road safety in the region.
