As Chhath festival approaches, the Patna administration has made special traffic arrangements to ensure smooth access for Chhath devotees and pilgrims to the ghats. The authorities have taken several steps to ensure that the roads surrounding the ghats remain accessible for the devotees while minimizing traffic congestion in the city. The traffic arrangements will help in ensuring the safety and comfort of those participating in the Chhath rituals. These arrangements will be in effect for the two key days of the festival, including both the evening and morning Arghya offerings.
Special Traffic Arrangements for Chhath Devotees
The Patna administration has made arrangements to ease the movement of devotees and pilgrims near the ghats. The roads surrounding these areas will be made accessible to them, while other vehicles will be restricted. Several areas in the city will be designated as permanent no-vehicle zones, while alternative routes will be available at select locations. These arrangements will be in place for two days — the evening Arghya on October 27 and the morning Arghya on October 28.
According to the traffic plan, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM on October 27 and 2:00 AM to 8:00 AM on October 28, the Ashok Rajpath and Jagran Ganga Path will be completely closed to vehicles. Furthermore, vehicles from the Khajanchi Road will be diverted to areas like Patna College and Science College. Kargil Chowk to Shahpur will be restricted to all types of vehicles, except for emergency and illegal vehicles, ensuring safe passage for the Chhath devotees.
Traffic Restrictions Around Key Locations
Apart from the key ghats, several important roads in Patna will be closed to traffic during specific hours to facilitate the smooth movement of the devotees. From 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM on October 27 and 3:00 AM to 6:00 PM on October 28, the traffic from Digha Mor to Ashiyana Mor (north to south direction) will be completely shut down. Vehicles will be redirected to alternative routes, with Ramjichak Mor to Nahar Road and Neheru Path serving as diversion routes. Moreover, Japan Ganga Path (Marine Drive) from Digha Golambar to Didarganj will be closed to vehicles on both lanes during this time. Vehicles heading to Digha will be diverted through the LCT Underpass.
Alternative Routes and Special Pathways for Devotees
Special routes have been designed to ensure smooth passage to the ghats for the devotees. Vehicles heading to the Eastern Ghats and Gate-93 Ghat will have to take the road from the Railway Bridge to reach the designated pilgrimage spots. For the Banki Ghat, vehicles will use the Underpass route. Vehicles heading to Kurji Ghat will take the Kurji Mor to reach the ghat from the north direction. The vehicles for Kota Ghat and Bans Ghat will be redirected from Ashok Rajpath through the Underpass route towards the riverbank as part of the preparations to keep the traffic flowing smoothly.
In addition, devotees heading towards Ramji Chak from Arboobi will use the route through Japan Setu. All other regular vehicles will use the regular routes. The road from Digha to Ashok Rajpath will be cleared for devotees, ensuring smooth access to the Patli Path and Uttari Chor.
Special Provisions for Sonpur and Chapra Devotees
For devotees traveling from Sonpur and Chapra, special provisions have been made to manage the heavy influx of vehicles. The entry of large vehicles such as trucks, buses, and heavy goods carriers will be completely restricted. The traffic plan encourages people traveling to Sonpur or Hajipur to use the Mahatma Gandhi Setu as their main route, avoiding the usual access paths through Japan Setu and Ganga Path. Vehicles coming from Japan Setu will be directed towards Ashok Rajpath using the dedicated access path. This arrangement is made to prevent unnecessary congestion in the area while ensuring that the devotees can reach their destinations smoothly.
Focus on Public Safety and Convenience
The administration’s primary goal during the Chhath festival is to ensure public safety and convenience. Special measures have been introduced to ensure that the traffic disruptions do not lead to any inconvenience or safety hazards for the pilgrims and locals. These measures have been planned to prevent overcrowding and ensure timely access to the ghats for those performing the sacred rituals of Chhath Puja.
Patna’s traffic management and police authorities will be actively monitoring the situation to ensure that there is no disruption in the daily life of the citizens. Emergency services, including ambulances and police vehicles, will be given priority in case of need, ensuring that there are no delays in urgent situations.
Ensuring Smooth Flow of Traffic During Chhath Festival
With the implementation of these traffic arrangements, the administration aims to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic, while also ensuring the safety of Chhath devotees and minimizing disruptions in public life. As the festival draws thousands of people to the ghats, it is essential to have well-organized traffic systems to manage the large crowds and ensure that people can participate in the rituals without facing undue hardship.
The city’s roads and traffic system will be closely monitored, and any unforeseen circumstances will be addressed immediately to keep the festival’s proceedings on track. Devotees are urged to follow the guidelines and road diversions set by the authorities to avoid confusion and delays.
The special traffic arrangements in Patna for Chhath Puja 2025 aim to streamline transportation for devotees while maintaining public safety. The efforts by the administration will ensure that people can reach the ghats safely and participate in the festival without facing traffic-related issues. The dedicated routes, time restrictions, and vehicle diversions will help in managing the large number of pilgrims expected during the festival.
