In a shocking incident in Muzaffarpur, a woman was allegedly strangled to death by her in-laws, who then attempted to burn her body at a crematorium. However, their plans were interrupted when the police arrived at the scene. The assailants fled before they could complete the cremation. Authorities are now investigating the case, and a written complaint has been filed against the accused.
Tragic Incident in Jaitpur
The disturbing event took place in the Jaitpur police station area, where a woman’s body was taken to the crematorium by her in-laws. The body was left behind when the police arrived, and the perpetrators escaped before they could carry out the final rites. This led to chaos at the crematorium, with locals and police officers struggling to understand the situation. After being alerted by the villagers, the Saraiya and Jaitpur police quickly reached the crematorium and took the body for further investigation.
Details of the Incident
The woman who was killed has been identified as 35-year-old Rinku Devi, wife of Vijay Bhagat. Rinku’s uncle, Shivmangal Bhagat, revealed that his niece was brutally beaten by her in-laws, and they strangled her with a rope. He mentioned that when he reached her house, Rinku was bleeding, and there were serious injuries to her head. The rope marks on her neck were clearly visible. According to Shivmangal, Rinku had four young children, who are now left without their mother.
Allegations of Dowry Harassment
Rinku’s brother, Subodh Kumar, also spoke to the police, revealing a history of harassment related to dowry demands. He claimed that Rinku had been continuously tortured by her husband and his family for dowry. Subodh explained that Rinku’s husband and his relatives would regularly beat her, and this had been going on for quite some time. He also stated that his brother-in-law, Vijay Bhagat, had called him to inform him of Rinku’s sudden death, claiming that she had died due to illness. However, when Subodh and his relatives arrived, they found that the in-laws had already prepared the body for cremation.
Police Action and Investigation
Upon reaching the scene, the police found that the body was being transported for cremation, and the in-laws fled immediately. Subodh Kumar later filed a formal complaint at the police station, accusing Vijay Bhagat, his father Sukdev Bhagat, and other relatives, including Jai Kishun Bhagat and Hari Kishun Bhagat, of murder. He stated that Rinku had been subjected to continuous abuse and was strangled to death by her in-laws.
The police have confirmed that they are investigating the matter. A First Information Report (FIR) is being filed, and efforts are underway to arrest the accused. The police have conducted raids at the homes of the suspects, but all of them have reportedly gone into hiding. The post-mortem report will help clarify the exact cause of death, and further legal actions will be taken based on the findings.
This tragic incident in Muzaffarpur has highlighted the ongoing issue of dowry-related violence in India. The police are actively working on the case, and the investigation is expected to shed light on the true nature of the crime. The family of the deceased woman is seeking justice, and the authorities are committed to holding the perpetrators accountable. The case has also raised concerns about the need for stronger measures to combat dowry harassment and violence against women in the region.
