22-Year-Old Sophia Parveen Identified After Four Days; Family Recognizes Her from News Photo

In a heartbreaking development, the body of 22-year-old Sophia Parveen, also known as Rukhsar, was identified after four days. Her body had been lying in the mortuary at Patna’s Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) since her tragic death. It was only after her family from Bettiah recognized her from a news photo that the truth emerged. The shocking incident, which has shaken the community, took place on September 30, 2025, when Sophia was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend. According to police, he threw her from the third floor of their apartment in Danapur, Patna, and later abandoned her body at a hospital.

Sophia, a resident of Bhangha Balua village in Bettiah, West Champaran, was a nursing student working at a private hospital in Patna. Her sister, Shabana Khatoon, and other family members were able to identify her after seeing her photograph in a news report that was widely circulated online. The family arrived in Patna late on Saturday night to complete the formalities and claim the body.

Family’s Shock and Emotional Reaction

Shabana, Sophia’s sister, shared her emotional experience with the media. She recalled how Sophia had come home to Bettiah one day with a man who introduced himself as a police officer. He arrived in a Scorpio vehicle, claiming to be her friend. After staying with the family for one night, the man took Sophia back to Patna the next morning. It was only after seeing the news of Sophia’s murder that Shabana realized the man was not who he claimed to be.

With tears in her eyes, Shabana expressed her grief and demanded justice. “Just as he killed my sister, he should be punished in the same way,” she said. The family had treated the man with great respect, unaware of his true intentions. “He told us that he rarely got leave from his duties, and we trusted him completely,” Shabana added.

Murder Captured on CCTV

According to the police, Sophia and her boyfriend had been living together in flat number 306 at Soho Nirmala Apartments in Ashokpuri, RK Puram, Danapur. On the night of September 30, an argument allegedly led to the boyfriend throwing Sophia from the third-floor balcony of the apartment. The height from which she fell was about 65 feet, and the impact was fatal.

CCTV footage from a nearby school captured the horrifying incident. The video shows Sophia falling from the balcony and hitting the boundary wall of the school before landing on the ground. She died on the spot, with no signs of life when she hit the ground.

The Accused’s Escape and the Discarded Body

After the crime, the accused took Sophia’s lifeless body and transported it to IGIMS, about seven kilometers from their apartment. CCTV footage from the hospital shows the man arriving in an auto-rickshaw with the help of the driver. He then placed the body on a stretcher near the emergency OPD before fleeing the scene.

Hospital staff alerted the IGIMS police outpost, who in turn informed the Shastri Nagar police. Despite efforts to track the man, he escaped before the police could arrive. Unfortunately, Sophia passed away without receiving any medical attention.

Use of Fake Identity and Suspicious Circumstances

Further investigations by the police revealed that the accused had rented the apartment on September 9 under a fake identity. The landlord, Akhilanand Singh, told the police that the man had rented the flat under the name Amit Kumar, son of Vimal Singh from Kesari Nagar, Patna. The couple had presented themselves as husband and wife, and the documents they provided appeared to be genuine. However, after the police verified the details, they found the Aadhaar number provided by the accused to be fake.

The police are also investigating the fact that Sophia’s mobile phone is missing, which has raised suspicions that the accused may have destroyed evidence to avoid being caught.

Family Identifies Sophia After News Report

The case came to light after Sophia’s childhood friend, Arju Khan, recognized her image in a news report on October 3. “I immediately recognized Sophia when I saw the news on my phone. I informed her sister right away,” Arju told the police. Shabana, who was at her in-laws’ house at the time, rushed back to her parents’ house after receiving the news. When she showed the news report to her family, they all broke down in tears. They then informed the police and made their way to Patna to confirm the tragic news.

Ongoing Police Investigation

The Danapur police station has registered a murder case and is actively searching for the accused. The police team, along with forensic experts, visited the crime scene at the apartment and collected evidence, including clothes and personal belongings left behind in the flat. They are also working to trace the auto driver who helped the accused transport the body. The police have gathered all available CCTV footage from nearby areas in an effort to track the man’s escape route and bring him to justice.

Sophia Remembered as a Bright and Ambitious Young Woman

Sophia’s family described her as the brightest and most cheerful member of their household. “She was always full of dreams and wanted to help others. We were so proud of her,” Shabana said, her voice breaking with emotion. Sophia’s tragic death has left her family devastated, and they are determined to see justice served for their beloved daughter and sister.

The case of Sophia Parveen’s murder is not only tragic but also reveals the danger of people hiding their true intentions under false identities. Sophia’s family was left in shock as they learned the horrifying details of her death. The case is now under intense investigation by the Danapur police, who are working tirelessly to catch the accused and ensure that justice is served. Sophia’s memory will live on as a bright and ambitious young woman whose life was tragically cut short.

The police are hopeful that with the help of the gathered evidence and CCTV footage, they will be able to track down the accused and bring him to justice. The family’s demand for justice remains strong, and they continue to seek closure in the wake of this senseless crime.
