Prime Minister Narendra Modi has responded strongly to abusive remarks allegedly made against his mother from a joint RJD and Congress platform in Bihar. Addressing the controversy, the Prime Minister said that such comments are not just personal attacks but are an insult to the dignity of every mother, sister, and daughter of the nation.
“Mother Is Our World and Self-Respect”
Speaking at the inauguration of the Bihar State Jeevika Nidhi Cooperative Federation Limited, PM Modi became visibly emotional while addressing the issue. He remarked, “Mother is our world, she is our self-respect. In a land like Bihar, with such a rich cultural heritage, I never imagined something like this could happen. These abuses are not only an insult to my mother but also to every woman in this country.”
A Personal and Emotional Response
PM Modi highlighted that his mother had no connection with politics. He questioned why she should be dragged into political discourse. “My mother never had anything to do with politics. Why, then, should she be abused?” he asked, sharing his pain in front of the women attending the event.
He added that he was speaking openly about his anguish so that, with the blessings of mothers and sisters, he could bear this pain.
Bihar’s Cultural Context
The Prime Minister reminded the audience of Bihar’s spiritual traditions, mentioning that in just 20 days, Navratri would begin, followed 50 days later by the sacred festival of Chhath Puja. He declared, “I want to tell those who insulted mothers that Modi may forgive you once, but the soil of India has never tolerated the insult of mothers. RJD and Congress must seek forgiveness from Saptamatrika (seven goddesses) and Chhathi Maiya.”
Call for Public Accountability
PM Modi urged the people of Bihar to hold leaders accountable wherever they go. He said, “Wherever RJD and Congress leaders go, in every street, people must remind them: ‘We will not tolerate abuse of mothers, we will not tolerate attacks on dignity.’”
He emphasized that respect for women is non-negotiable and forms the foundation of Indian values.
Modi on Women Empowerment
Turning the conversation toward governance, the Prime Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to women’s empowerment. He pointed out that the NDA government has consistently prioritized reducing difficulties in women’s lives and creating opportunities for their growth.
“Empowering the women of this nation is our top priority. I promise you, I will continue working tirelessly, without rest, for this cause,” he affirmed.
Criticism of Opposition’s Mindset
In his remarks, PM Modi criticized the mentality of those who used derogatory language, saying, “Those who abuse mothers believe women are weak. This mindset is wrong, and it is our responsibility to change it.”
PM Modi’s response to the Congress-RJD remarks in Bihar was more than just a political counterattack. By framing the insult as an attack on the dignity of every Indian woman, he sought to connect with the emotional and cultural fabric of society. His invocation of Navratri and Chhath Puja, along with a strong call for public accountability, reflected both his political strategy and personal pain.
The Prime Minister made it clear that, while he may forgive political opponents personally, the nation would never forgive insults directed at its women. His message reinforced the NDA’s stance on women’s empowerment, while also turning the controversy into a rallying point for public sentiment in Bihar and beyond.
