Within minutes, a police team reached the site and took charge of the situation. Continuous Rainfall Contributed to the Tragedy
Locals reported that the Saryu canal’s roadside was extremely slippery due to ongoing rainfall for the past several days. The Bolero’s speed was slightly high, and the driver couldn’t regain control once the vehicle began to skid. Witnesses said the vehicle suddenly swerved off the road and plunged into the deep water of the canal, leaving no time for any preventive action.
Families from Sihagaon and Nearby Areas Were Traveling Together
The victims belonged to two families residing in Sihagaon, a village in the Moti Ganj police station area. They had set out early in the morning to visit the ancient Prithvinath Temple in Khargupur. The religious trip turned into a nightmare just before they reached Rehra village under the Itiyathok police station. It was near this location that the vehicle met with the fatal accident.
Locals Played a Crucial Role in Rescue
Eyewitnesses played a vital role in the rescue efforts. Without waiting for official help, they jumped into the water and broke the vehicle’s glass windows to pull out the trapped passengers. Their timely action managed to save four lives, although the other eleven could not be revived. Ambulances soon arrived and shifted the injured to the hospital.
Police Ensures Immediate Medical Aid
Police personnel, upon reaching the site, coordinated with health officials to transfer the injured for emergency treatment. Emergency teams were deployed in the area to prevent further mishaps, especially considering the dangerous condition of roads due to monsoon rain.

Locals urged authorities to place barriers or guardrails on such roads and conduct regular maintenance to prevent similar accidents in the future.
Investigation Underway
Police have started an investigation into the matter to determine if negligence was involved. They are also reviewing whether the road conditions were previously reported and what preventive steps had been taken, if any. Initial reports point to slippery roads and high speed as the primary causes.
CM’s Instructions to Departments
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reiterated that all concerned departments must work together in such emergencies. He stressed the importance of strengthening disaster response and road safety protocols. The state government has assured that the matter will be taken seriously, and accountability will be fixed wherever necessary.
