BPSSC Bihar SI Vacancy 2026 Announced for 78 Posts, Applications Open

The Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission has released an official notification for Sub Inspector recruitment in 2026. The recruitment is being conducted for the Prohibition, Excise, and Registration Department of the Bihar government. A total of 78 Sub Inspector posts have been announced under this drive. The online application process began on January 27, 2026, and interested candidates can submit their forms through the official website, bpssc.bih.nic.in. The last date for application submission is February 27, 2026.

The recruitment process, officially referred to as BPSSC Bihar Daroga Bharti 2026, will be completed in three stages. Candidates will have to qualify in the preliminary examination, followed by the main written examination, and finally the physical efficiency test. Only those who clear all stages will be considered for final selection.

Eligibility Criteria for BPSSC Bihar SI Recruitment

Candidates applying for the Sub Inspector posts must have completed graduation in any discipline from a recognized university. The educational qualification will be verified during the document verification process. Applicants who fail to produce valid documents may face cancellation of their candidature at a later stage.

The age limit for candidates has been set between 20 years and 37 years. Age calculation will be done as of August 1, 2025. Unreserved category male candidates must be between 20 and 37 years of age, while unreserved female candidates can apply up to 40 years. For candidates belonging to Backward Class and Extremely Backward Class categories, the upper age limit is 40 years. Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and third gender candidates are eligible up to 42 years of age as per government rules.

Selection Process and Examination Pattern

The selection process for BPSSC Bihar SI Vacancy 2026 will be conducted in three phases. The first stage will be the preliminary written examination. This examination will consist of one paper carrying 200 marks with 100 multiple-choice questions. The duration of the exam will be two hours. Questions will be asked from general knowledge and current affairs. Candidates must secure at least 30 percent marks to qualify for the next stage.

Based on the marks obtained in the preliminary examination, candidates will be shortlisted for the main examination. The number of shortlisted candidates will be twenty times the total number of vacancies, following category-wise reservation norms. Marks obtained in the preliminary exam will not be included in the final merit list.

The main written examination will consist of two papers. The first paper will be General Hindi, carrying 200 marks with a duration of two hours. Candidates must score a minimum of 30 percent marks to qualify. However, marks obtained in the General Hindi paper will not be counted in the final merit.

The second paper of the main examination will include questions from General Studies, General Science, Civics, Indian History, Indian Geography, Mathematics, and Mental Ability. This paper will also carry 200 marks with 100 multiple-choice questions and a duration of two hours. The marks obtained in this paper will be used to prepare the final merit list.

Negative Marking and Evaluation Rules

Negative marking will be applicable in both the preliminary and main examinations. For every incorrect answer, 0.2 marks will be deducted from the candidate’s score. Candidates are advised to attempt questions carefully, as excessive guessing may reduce their chances of selection.

Physical Standards and Physical Efficiency Test

Candidates who qualify the main written examination will be called for the physical measurement and physical efficiency test. For male candidates from unreserved and backward categories, the minimum height requirement is 165 centimeters. Male candidates from Extremely Backward Class, Scheduled Caste, and Scheduled Tribe categories must have a minimum height of 160 centimeters. Female candidates from all categories must have a minimum height of 155 centimeters, along with a minimum weight of 48 kilograms.

Chest measurement is applicable only for male candidates. Unreserved, Backward Class, and Extremely Backward Class male candidates must have a chest measurement of 81 centimeters unexpanded and 86 centimeters expanded, with a minimum expansion of five centimeters. Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe male candidates must have a chest measurement of 79 centimeters unexpanded and 84 centimeters expanded, maintaining the same expansion criteria.

The physical efficiency test will include running, high jump, long jump, and shot put. Male candidates must complete a one-mile run within six minutes and thirty seconds, while female candidates must complete a one-kilometer run within six minutes. In high jump, male candidates must clear four feet, and female candidates must clear three feet. For long jump, the requirement is twelve feet for males and nine feet for females. In shot put, male candidates must throw a sixteen-pound shot to a minimum distance of sixteen feet, while female candidates must throw a twelve-pound shot to a minimum distance of ten feet.

Final Merit List and Application Fee

The final merit list for BPSSC Bihar SI Recruitment 2026 will be prepared based on marks obtained in the second paper of the main written examination. The physical efficiency test will be qualifying in nature and will not carry any marks. Candidates who qualify all stages successfully will be considered for final appointment based on merit and available vacancies.

The application fee for the recruitment has been fixed at 100 rupees. Candidates must complete the fee payment online while submitting the application form. Applications without successful fee payment will not be accepted.
